HYPE! Honouring Young Professionals and Entrepreneurs
At the annual JCI Cape Breton HYPE! awards at the Membertou Trade & Convention Centre, I was honoured to receive the award for Excellence in Community Development, “designed to recognize youth, professionals, businesses, individuals and organizations that have excelled in contributing to the community through their meaningful volunteer efforts in local charities, events and community-based initiatives.”
The award was sponsored by the Nova Scotia Department of Economic and Rural Development, which I quoted in my Oscar-calibre acceptance speech:
The Nova Scotia Department of Economic and Rural Development has been quoted in the Nova Scotia Policy Review as saying that the “social environment” has a “critical impact” on the ability of a province’s government and economy to “perform”. And of course, the role a government or economy performs is to provide for people and to help people provide for themselves. I applaud JCI and its members – and the sponsors of tonight’s awards – for the ways in which they make positive contributions to the social environment.
